About Qigong and Meditation
Qigong is a truly holistic system of gentle exercises that is 4000 years old. It has been used to promote personal development on all levels of our being; spiritual; emotional; mental and physical.
Qi energy is the driving force of the entire universe, and, at the human level, it is the force that nurtures and sustains our bodies.
The saying goes… We can live for 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water, 3 minutes without air, and 3 seconds without qi.
In the TCM (traditional Chinese medicine) model of health, when the qi is flowing in an abundant and unrestricted way around the body, the person is in a state of natural good health. Qi flows in 12 channels (meridians) around the body. When there are blockages in these channels, the qi flow is interrupted and distorted, the qi becomes unbalanced and thus illness arises. All TCM-based therapies have the aim of removing these blockages and enlivening the qi energy in order to restore balance. Once the qi is flowing in an abundant, unrestricted and balanced way, the person will return to a state of natural good health. This is the aim of Qigong.
The flowing movements of Qigong are designed to relax the muscles, open the joints and flex the torso and limbs. This stretches the meridians and promotes good qi flow. The mind is relaxed and focused, usually on the hands, and the whole body is moving in a flowing, integrated and coordinated way. This creates a meditative state that improves the flow of qi through the mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of our being. This is the power of Qigong.

Healing Meditation:
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, when the Qi energy (pronounced Chi) in the 12 meridians is flowing freely around the body then the person is in a natural state of good health. When a trauma or upset occurs on the spiritual, mental, emotional or physical level, the energy can become blocked or stagnant. This manifests itself as a physical illness. Healing meditation uses a simple combination of breathing exercises and visualisation to move the Qi, clear away blockages and enliven stagnant energy on the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical levels. As such, it is a useful way to return the whole person to good health. Healing meditation can be practised while seated, standing, or moving. The client can explore which form of this powerful technique is best suited to them.
